The Shanghai Childrens Palace provides after school education for gifted children. Located on West Yanan Road in central Shanghai, it was founded in 1953 by Song Qingling (Madam Sun Yatsen).

Children Palace is in fact a kind of spare time school, but kids dont learn the same knowledge as they do in schools. There are lots of programs in the palace, such as piano, painting, calligraphy, dancing and computer. Children can take part in one or two programs in light of their own interests. All the children ranging from 5 to 14 years old, can go to the palace when they can pass a simple examination and pay a small sum of money one term. The palace is in fact a part of Chinas social welfare because the government offers some financial support to the palace. It also have some donations from all works of life. You can find this kind of palace in many large and medium-sized cities in China. They have assist the country in training many gifted children into sport world champion and musicians.
